Most language-learning systems fail for the same reason: reading and listening feel like progress, so you keep doing them, and never find out that speaking and writing have not moved at all.
This template makes that imbalance visible. Nothing more clever than that.
| Database | What goes in | The point |
|---|---|---|
| 📗 Materials & Wishlist | Books, courses, and apps you use or want. Comes with buy links as samples | "Dropped" is a status, not a failure. Keep it — it tells you what you do not finish |
| 🔤 Vocabulary & Phrases | Words and phrases, with the sentence you met them in | Isolated words do not stick. The sentence is the unit that does |
| 🎧 Practice Log | What you did, for how long, and which skill | Group by Skill once a week. The empty column is your answer |
<aside> ⚠️
Do not fill everything in on day one. Run the Practice Log for one week first. The rest can wait.
</aside>
After two weeks, group the log by Skill. You will almost certainly see something like this:
| Skill | Typical result after two weeks |
|---|---|
| Reading | Many rows. It is comfortable and feels productive |
| Listening | Some rows. Usually passive listening |
| Grammar | A few rows, early on, then nothing |
| Speaking | Empty |
| Writing | Empty |
That is the whole diagnosis. You do not need an app to tell you what to do next — you need to see the two empty rows.
